Relationship between Tree Nuts and Peanuts and Adiposity

Relationship between Tree Nuts and Peanuts and Adiposity

A recent study published in Nutrients explored how consumption of tree nuts and peanuts affected adiposity, or weight measures.

As weight problems continue to be a major health concern around the globe, there is an increased focus on maintaining a healthy diet to control weight.

Researchers conducted a meta-analysis and systematic review to assess the relationship between tree nut and peanut consumption and body weight, body mass index, waist circumference, and body fat percentage. In total, 105 randomized controlled trials were used in the study and measures of body weight included 6,768 participants, body mass index analyzed 2,918, waist circumference was examined in 5,045, and percentage of body fat included 1,226 participants.

The results from the study support the conclusions that tree nut and peanut consumption do not influence adiposity, and that in comparison to a control diet, almond consumption was associated with a significant decrease in waist circumference.
