INC Launches 200,000 € Research Grant
We are glad to announce that the International Nut and Dried Fruit Council Foundation (INC) calls for expressions of interest for research projects from public and private institutions, as well as not-for-profit organizations, which may contribute to enhance the understanding of the health effects of nuts and dried fruits.
The INC has a specific wish for cooperative projects that bridge different research areas, as the interaction of disciplines and research groups often lead to new knowledge and understanding of correlations. Furthermore, special emphasis will be placed upon cooperation with industry-related partners.
"Health & Nuts" New INC's Magazine for Health Professionals
The issue number 1 of the magazine "Health & Nuts" incorporates the latest scientific data and advices from the landmark study PREDIMED -published in the February issue of the New England Journal of Medicine. The spotlight of the publication Health & Nuts is the prevention and disease management through the consumption of nuts in a typical Mediterranean Diet.
The contents are presented in several sections. The chapters "About PREDIMED Study", "Other PREDIMED Study Findings" and "Resources for Health Professionals" provide up-to-date information and outcomes from the PREDIMED as regards cardiovascular diseases, oxidation, metabolic syndrome, diabetes, atherosclerosis, mortality risk, cognitive function, renal functions and inflammatory markers. This is followed by a set of key messages and guidelines designed to spread the health message among patients. The final section provides additional information of interest to consumers, as well as ideas and tips to incorporate nuts in the diet.
“Nuts in Health and Disease”
The 20th International Congress of Nutrition took place in Granada, Spain, from the 15th to the 20th of September, 2013, with plenary lectures, debate sessions, parallel symposia dedicated to major food and nutrition topics, and sessions of poster discussions presented by a large number of experts from around the world.
INC was sponsor of the satellite symposium “Nuts in Health and Disease”, which highlighted the latest research on nuts and chronic disease, cardiovascular health, diabetes, body weight and metabolic syndrome. The symposium gathered together the most prestigious researchers and spread the health benefits of nuts to the biggest group of health influencers, researchers and professionals related to nutrition, food and dietetics.
Declaration of Barcelona
The Benefits of Nuts on Cardiovascular Health. Following the INC Symposium Nuts and Cardiovascular Health held on March 4th, 2010, in Barcelona, Spain, within the frame of the 2nd Congress of the Federation of the Societies of Nutrition, Food and Dietetics (FESNAD), the moderators and guest speakers of the session concluded a declaration on the benefits of consumption of nuts on cardiovascular health.
Symposiums & Seminars
The INC promotes scientific meetings, such as symposia and seminars, involving leading researchers in the fields of health and nutrition. By facilitating debate and discussion, these events help to further develop and disseminate knowledge about nuts and dried fruits. Participants have the opportunity to review the latest developments, explore the practical implications of new knowledge, and identify new research avenues.
